Lung Detox

Food

You may not be able to control the air you breathe; however, you can support your lung health with specific foods, herbs and practices to ensure a clean body. Lung detox is covered in detail (along with the other detox organs) within my Conscious Cleanse program (7 day meal with all recipes and a real food shopping list). Today I’m sharing my top lung detoxification tips:

Peppermint – contains menthol which relaxes the respiratory tract muscles. Use fresh peppermint in cooking or drink peppermint tea after meals.

Oregano – contains natural decongestants and histamine reducers to help support the nasal tract and nasal passage. Use fresh or dried oregano in your cooking.

Eucalyptus – contains cineole which supports the sinus passage and eases congestion. Place a few drops of eucalyptus onto your shower floor right before you take a hot shower. Inhale the natural eucalypt steam while you shower for a lung cleanse.

Ginger – a well known tool for lung health and prevention of lung cancer. Enjoy fresh ginger in your cooking and juices.

Liquorice Root – drink liquorice root tea to soften the mucous membranes to clear excess mucous from the body.

Sage – the natural oils found in sage include thujone, camphor, terpene and salvene are beneficial for lung and respiratory tract health. Brew fresh sage leaves in hot water to make sage tea.

Breathe – start and finish your day with 10 deep breaths that extend right down into your diaphragm. Breathing in this way communicates to your body that you are safe. Place your hand on your stomach as your breathe, if you are breathing properly you should feel your belly rise and fall.
